Film opening brief

Our film opening which we have yet to decide an appropriate title for will focus on the death of a soldier in the Falklans war. The soldiers is seperated from his fellow comrades and killed by an enemy sniper, however this is not the end of our victim of war for he is now stuck between two worlds. Unable to pass on without first learning a valuable lesson he must try to understand why he is here and maybe he can even save himself in the process. This opening will be in the style of a supernatural thriller such as the 6th sense featuring just as many twists and turns.

Preliminary exercise

In our preliminary exercise, which consisted of a short scene in which a person entered a room and was involved in dialogue with another, we managed to keep most of our shots steady and in focus using a tripod, however there is one small section which is a bit shaky but only on close inspection is it noticable. We used the rule of thirds to keep the viewers attention where we want it. The rule of thirds also helps keep an eye line match between shots. We did our best to avoid gbright light sources behind characters they do not become backlit. By not breaking the 180 degree rule we ensured that the scene was fairly easy to establish and avoided confusing the audience. Changes i would make if we were to repeat this task is to set the band managers shot at an ever so slightly lower angle and the triangle players slightly higher show who is the one with the power in this situation. we filmed each section approximately five times so we can pick the best section to put in our final cut, this also helped create great match on action. The shot reverse shot action was very good after we had cut out the material we did not want to use. All the dialogue and sound was clear. The lightimng was very good in all but one section where the lights are switched on as the camera took time to adjust. The Mise en scene was very good as we used the recording studio in the music block to film the dispute between the band manager and the triangle player, the music room was a great place to film as its sound proof and therefore prevents interference from the outside . I believe we all worked very well as a team when it came to contributing ideas etc however we did have over twenty minutes of material which was rendered useless as we were laughing so much.
